Southwestern College held a topping-off ceremony for the Higher Education Center at San Ysidro on Aug. 7. The ceremony celebrated the completion of the formation of steel over the $5.6 million facility. Opening in the spring of 2009, the facility will be able to serve approximately 2,000 students and meet the current demand for higher education in the region. The 18,000-square-foot two-story center will replace the original one. story, 7,500-square-foot temporary building. The new center will have more classrooms, computer labs and improved student facilities. The ed center will also include a career/transfer center library; health services facility and computer labs. This project was funded by Proposition AA an $89 million bend approved by local voten in 2000.
