The U.K. Parliament is planning to make all the official Hansard
Parliament reports from 1804 to 2004 available online by the end of the
year. Optical character recognition technology will be used to digitize
three million printed pages.
Some of this text is already accessible online at
http://hansard.millbanksystems.com, although the project has not yet
been officially approved as a version of Hansard. The test site has been
developed using information provided by the Hansard Digitisation
Project, directed by the House of Commons and the House of Lords.
This site has been sponsored by Parliament to test and demonstrate
user interfaces for historic data, certain functionality, and other
exploratory work. Officials said they want feedback on the functionality
of the site and, where possible, they will make improvements based on
the comments received. The Parliament sees the site as a public
experiment, and officials said its future development will depend on the
feedback received during the trial phase.
