This text for two graduate-level courses on signals and signal
processing introduces numerous programs and functions of MATLAB
(R2007a). Unlike other books on the subject, the emphasis is not on
signal processing per se, but on signals and signal processing in the
context of radar applications. After an overview of radar systems
operation and design, the book reviews elements of signal theory
relevant to radar detection and radar signal processing, along with
random variables and processes. It then presents the matched filter and
develops a general formula for matched filter output that is valid for
any waveform. Several analog waveforms are analyzed, including the
linear frequency modulation pulse and stepped frequency waveforms, as
well as unmodulated pulse-train, binary, polyphase, and frequency codes.
Other topics covered include radar target detection, radar Doppler
processing, and beamforming. All MATLAB programs and functions provided
in the book can be downloaded from the publisher's web site.
