Constituting an English translation and second edition of the Flora Reipublicae Popularis Sinicae (FRPS), this volume is part of an impressively comprehensive series that will number 25 volumes when complete. The present volume contains entries for plants of the 33 families from Clusiaceae to Araliacae (following the sequence of families used in the FRPS). Entries are provided for 1288 species, of which 649 are endemic to China. The entries include a description, bibliography, and discussion of names, including synonyms. As far as possible, the descriptions are based on the plant itself. For reasons of space intermediate ranks and genera are cited sparingly. This volume, which is oversized (8.75x11.25"), contains text only; illustrations are published in separate volumes in the series. Four indexes are provided: by Chinese name, Pinyin name, scientific name, and an index to the families in the series and in FRPS. Co-published with Science Press (Beijing).
