Brief therapies

With the advent of National Health in the UK and HMO's in the United States, psychological counseling and therapy have had to take into account that there are time limits imposed on therapists. There are also situations in which the patient is only available for a short time. While this is counter to ideal therapy situations, Tudor, a psychotherapist in England, recognizes that it is a fact of life. This volume contains articles by other mental health professionals on the best way to utilize the time allotted. The first section gives general methods. The second looks at specific situations, such as trauma recovery, couples counseling and sexual assault. Several articles describe institutional therapy, in universities, the workplace and prisons. Each presents its own challenges and the authors have different ways of meeting them. An appendix gives an example of Rogers' communication techniques which many have found useful.
