WEST Allotment striker Keith Douglas certainly knows where the back
of the net is, having scored six goals in five games during his
team's impressive start to the season.
Douglas' goals have lifted Allotment to second in the Northern
League First Division, but he is keen to play down his own performances,
citing the impact of other players for the team's form.
He said: "We have had a good start, but it is not just down to
me.
"My fellow strikers, Tom Vickers and Glen Taylor, take a lot
of weight off me and we work well as a partnership."
Douglas, 26, is into his second season at Allotment, and is full of
praise for Gary Middleton and Ritchie Bond, who are part of the
club's management team.
He added: "These lads have won just about everything in
non-league football and are an inspiration.
"They are still hungry for success."
Originally from Amble, Douglas works as a lecturer in sporting
exercise at Newcastle College, and is keen to turn his attentions to
coaching. He said: "I enjoy my job as well as coaching, and have
learned a lot from West Allotment coach Neil Winskill, who I believe is
one of the top men in coaching in the North East."
Without getting carried away, the former Bedlington Terriers man is
optimistic about what the rest of the season could hold for Allotment.
He said: "We are starting to build up a decent fan base at the
Blue Flames ground.
"This is a fine club with a top committee and we are hopeful
of success."
