Flagship school is just the job.

Evening Chronicle (Newcastle, England) • Sept 5, 2008 • News

A NEW school has opened for more than 1,000 pupils aged four to 16.

Academy 360 in Sunderland replaces Penny well School and Quarry View Primary School as an all-age school.

It aims to take an innovative approach to education, specializing in business and innovation, with mini companies being formed to give young people a practical education of business skills.

Students will be involved in running companies responsible for fashion and web design among other subjects. Enrichment classes will also be held after school to help students have more control over their education.

Academy chief executive Paul Prest said: "What we are doing here is truly innovative and will be watched with huge interest by the educational world."

Academy 360 is sponsored by property business Gentoo together with Sunderland City Council and local businessman Bob Murray.
