E-discovery expectations.
by Swartz, Nikki
For those companies that are not adequately prepared for
e-discovery, here are some sobering statistics from The National Law
Journal:
* Sixty to 70 percent of all corporate data reside in or are
attached to e-mail.
* Ninety-nine percent of all documents today are in digital form,
and most are never printed in hard copy.
* Electronic data are obtained in three out of every four lawsuits
involving Fortune 500 companies.
A recent report from Forrester Research, "Believe
it--E-Discovery Technology Spending to Top $4.9 billion by 2011,"
said the e-discovery technology market was worth $1.5 billion in 2006
and will grow to almost $4.9 billion by 2011. The largest direct expense
is the collection, processing, and review of data, which costs, on
average, about $1,800 per gigabyte, according to the report.
