Dubai-raised R&B singer, songwriter and producer Karl Wolf has
been nominated as "Best MTV Arabia New Act" at the prestigious
EMA music awards (MTV's European Music Awards). Fans across the
globe are voting for Karl to represent Middle East talent in Liverpool
on November 6.
Karl recently returned from a two week promotional tour to promote
his self-titled album in Japan. He is excited about the nomination,
stating:
"WOW!!! The EMA'S! This is massive! Definitely a dream of
mine to perform at an MTV AWARD Celebration. Brushing shoulders with
some of the most respected artists in the business and sharing my work
with them, totally off da chain! I want to thank MTV ARABIA for their
ongoing support and selecting me as a nominee for this incredible
opportunity. Let's do it!"
Karl's huge success in Japan has catapulted his musical career
into another dimension, sharing top seats on the international charts
with the likes of Madonna and Coldplay. Japanese fans are hungry for the
Karl!
Karl is certainly not a new kid on the block. After years of
producing and composing for other artists, in 2005 Karl decided that it
was time to focus on his own music. He wrote and produced all of the
songs on his debut album Face Behind the Face, playing virtually all the
instruments himself. In 2007 Karl won a Sounds of Blackness Award (SOBA)
as the "Best R&B/Soul Artist of the Year" and was also
nominated for a 2007 Juno Award for "Best R&B/Soul
Recording." Early in 2008 Face Behind The Face reached Gold status
in the Middle East.
In 2007 EMI Arabia released Karl's second album Bite The
Bullet. The first single from the album "Africa" is an
infectious Toco track, adapted and styled with Karl's musical
charm. The single featuring Canadian Rapper 'Culture' took the
airwaves by storm. It was this track that captured the interest of
massive music markets such as Japan and paved the way for Karl's
nomination as "MTVa's Best New Act 2008."
