The Ontario government has unveiled a new policy promoting the use of biofibre as an energy source.
There's growing uses for tree tops, and limbs, which the province says, currently aren't marketable as traditional forest products. The forest biofibre policy provides general direction for the allocation and use of previously unused biofibre in the forest.
A Ministry of Natural Resources says it will guide the use of forest biofibre to create and support new opportunities to develop and use new clean technologies and products.
"This policy will help in the development of non-conventional forest products, encourage new investment in emerging markets, and improve the competitiveness of Ontario's forest sector," said Natural Resources Minister Donna Cansfield in an Aug. 13 release.
