Hilton Targets Hunger Crisis: On Nov. 21 the Hilton La Jolla Torrey
Pines will host "Hunger at Home," a gala that will feature
more than 25 international cuisines. Proceeds will be donated to the San
Diego Food Bank with a portion going to The Network for a Healthy
California. The event starts at 6 p.m.
"Just in the San Diego area alone, 480,000 people face the
threat of hunger daily and 181,000 are children under the age of
12," said Ewell Sterner, director of food and beverage services for
Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines. "Our goal is to reach out to the
community and create awareness about the hunger crisis our world is
facing and help solve the crisis that is taking place here."
A silent auction will be held during dinner, followed by a live
auction, performances and dancing. The goal is to raise $5 million.
Other hotels within the county bearing Hilton brands are joining in the
effort.
