Northern Ontario highlights.(GREATER SUDBURY'S VitalSigns[R] 2008)

Each year, the Sudbury Community Foundation publishes Vital Signs, an indicator report that gives us a snapshot of our community in eleven different issue areas.

While Vital Signs is a report about Greater Sudbury, we believe it has given us a unique and important glimpse of the larger Northern Ontario picture.

The Northern Ontario flavour of Greater Sudbury's Vital Signs report has been deliberately cast. We share a unique set of similarities as resource based northern communities, and with those similarities, the accompanying successes, challenges, opportunities and risks.

Despite the vast geographic distances that separate our communities in Northern Ontario, there is much more that connects us.

While its primary focus is Greater Sudbury, Vital Signs is an indicator report that will give us all a clearer understanding of our communities, their achievements and challenges. The report is of value to the private sector, our municipal leaders, our educators and students, and our citizens.

The social, economic, cultural and environmental factors in the report show us that we have much to celebrate here, and at the same time, we have work to do.
