All Northern Ontario cities saw an increase in the employment rate in 2006 from 2001; however, they are consistently below the national rate of 62.4% and the Ontario rate of 62.8%. Timmins' rate rose from 56.7% to 60.9%. Sudbury's rate increased from 56.3% to 58.1%. Other Northern Ontario cities experienced marginal increases: North Bay (57.1% to 57.2%), Sault Ste. Marie (53.9% to 55.1%), and Thunder Bay (58.2% to 58.7%).
