Northern Ontario Business Awards celebrated their 22nd year with a. sold-out crowd at the North Bay's Best Western on Lakeshore Drive, October 9.
More than 500 leaders from industry, government and community were in attendance to witness-. 10 of the region's brightest and best in their respective fields.

Coming from as far away as Atikokan, Jeremy Dickson took home Young Entrepreneur of the Year for his savvy approach to Canada Canoe Outfitters operation-a family-run business that has faced numerous challenges and has come out ahead.
North Bay's Gateway Helicopters, owner, David Lauzon was awarded Entrepreneur of the Year after having diversified into all aspects of the natural resource sector after starting with one helicopter.
A company that has sustained the position of one of Canada's top 100 places to work for the third year in a row also took home Company of the Year Award 51+. Cementation Canada's Roy Slack has consistently said that making money is not their primary objective, rather, building a healthy workforce is.
Timmins-based Uptown Auto Parts was awarded Company of the Year (16-50), hailing their dedication to service and business.

Two northern coffee houses also took home awards. Sudbury's Old Rock Roastery was named Company of the Year (1-15) after Carole and Luc Roy opened the local business as a result of their pining for a good cup of coffee. The rest was history. North Bay's Twiggs Coffee Co. owner Jennifer Twiggs also ventured around the world before settling back in her hometown. Anyone who knows her understands that this First Nation Award winner was a natural fit for a woman who loves people and loves to work.
Northern Communications Inc / True Steel Security (Sudbury) received the Innovation Award for its technological solution that made 911 routing possible for VoIP subscribers and also creating an information file for emergency caregivers.
The Judge's Choice Award went to Nipissing District Developmental Screen (North Bay) for their easy-to-use checklist that was designed to be filled out by parents who were concerned about their child's learning developments.
The Entrepreneurial Community of the Year wen i Air Base Properties Corporation (North Bay) for the tire less work on the former Canadian Forces Base mat is now occupied by numerous companies settling in me city.
Finally, the Union Gas Essay Scholarship Award went to Veronique Doucet of Sudbury for her approach to environmentally friendly stewardship.

This was the first time the awards ceremony simultaneously occurred in two ballrooms via screen video. With such an overwhelming demand for tickets, it Was the event's way of accommodating those who wanted to celebrate the evening with the winners. It was also their way of providing a networking venue that has become such an important component of the Awards program.
