Going green is the new power label in today's economy. However, as Kermit the Frog once lamented in song, "it's not that easy being green." The truth of those words weighs heavy on the lives, minds, and especially the pocketbooks of individuals, businesses, and the world.

The world is changing and so is the economy. Without argument, global warming is a growing concern to most nations. To combat it, there seems to be no choice but to make drastic changes in almost every aspect of life on earth.

The climate and the world economic balance have become interlocked. Over the last decade, there are no longer just a few super economies, but an emergence of a global economy. With this new shift, we must look to previously overlooked and undervalued treasures for energy production: renewable and sustainable resources.

Historically, mankind is dependant upon only a limited number of natural resources that have been depleted, which in turn raises the value of the commodity, impacting national economies through cost and labor. With this new potential resource comes the additional promise of economic restoration, delivery from poverty, and improved quality of life. However, in an attempt to achieve this goal, green economy comes with a price, which means a tangible investment in new technologies as well education and training.

Sadly, the United States is falling behind the rest of the world in this quest. Traditions are hard to break, and the industries that control oil and coal have deep pockets. Still, the United States has the potential to lead in this changing economy, but the process will not he easy.

What does it mean to be green?

It is a choice.

It is a philosophy.

It is a commitment.

It is a lifestyle.

It is a necessity.

It is the present.

It is the future.
