Research center to develop new lighting technology.(INDUSTRY NEWS & NOTES)(Brief article)

A new research center at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y., was recently funded by a five-year, $18.5 million grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to develop light-emitting diode technology to replace the common light bulb. Led by Rensselaer with partners Boston University and the University of New Mexico, the Engineering Research Center for Smart Lighting will explore materials and systems applications to further the understanding and proliferation of smart lighting technologies.
