Just in time for Christmas, Laurentian University has officially unveiled its new $19-million "green" School of Education.
The three-storey, 6,690-square-metre building will house students, faculty and staff from the education program. It will also house the music department, the School of Rural and Northern Health, and the master's program in human kinetics.
With features such as a high-performance exterior envelope, superior ventilation and insulation and greater use of natural light, the facility is targeting a silver Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.
The building contains 10 teaching classrooms and labs, two computer teaching labs, two classrooms equipped with state-of-the-art technology and a pedagogical resource centre. It also contains rehearsal and practice rooms for music as well as faculty and staff offices.
