Summary: Rival Palestinian factions have adjourned their reconciliation talks in Cairo without a breakthrough on the shape or agenda of a national unity government

Rival Palestinian factions have adjourned their reconciliation talks in Cairo without a breakthrough on the shape or agenda of a national unity government, one participant said on Thursday. Wasil Abou Youssef, secretary-general of the Palestine Liberation Front, told Reuters another round of talks was planned soon.

"There is no solution yet for the differences," he said. The groups, which Hamas and Fatah, could also not agree on electoral law for legislative and presidential elections.

According to Abou Youssef, the factions would hold internal consultations back home before returning to another round of talks in Egypt.

The groups have agreed on the principle of forming an interim government that would prepare for the elections.
