Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a global leader in consumer electronics and world leader in IT technology, announced that its mini notebooks launched last December are experiencing huge success in the UAE. Samsung entered the market with the NC10, a mini notebook designed to go almost anywhere, with a weight of only 1.3kgs the NC10 increases possibilities whether at home, traveling or wherever internet access is available.

"In spite of Samsung's fresh start in the UAE mini notebook market, our line-up has gained the trust and admiration of consumers quickly. With the economy in its current state, a lot of people who are looking to buy PCs are increasingly turning to cheap, low-power mini notebooks and as a result we are seeing strong pick up in this product segment," said Madhav Narayan, General Manager, IT division, Samsung Gulf Electronics. "When we launched the Samsung NC10 we researched the mini notebook market extensively before diving in, and found many people were frustrated with small keyboards and short battery life, so we included a larger keyboard and 6-cell battery for up to 8 hours of use. These two features are instrumental in the success of mini notebooks in the UAE."

Even though it is one of the world's lightest mini notebooks in its 10.2" class the NC10's innovative design is packed with the latest technology for maximum mobility and productivity. It also incorporates a range of practical features, including a huge 160GB hard drive and a normal-size, ergonomic notebook PC style keyboard, to simplify life on the move. It is available in white or metallic blue colour options.

"In the whole of 2008, almost seven million mini notebooks were shipped in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). While IDC predicts that sales will settle down in 2009 to 20 or 30 per cent [of all portable sales in EMEA] we believe sales in the Middle East will remain robust," added Narayan. "We expect to continue to see strong growth in our netbook products especially with Microsoft planning to launch cut down versions of its upcoming Windows 7 and Office suite to work with mini notebooks."

Demand for mini-notebooks is being by driven by their small size, light weight, ease of use, their basic, but sufficient, PC functionality, and low cost. All of Samsung's mini notebooks are available throughout the Samsung showroom in Dubai Mall, the traditional IT reseller channel and major electronic outlets across the country. 2009 Al Bawaba (www.albawaba.com)
