The University of California, Berkeley School of Law (Berkeley, CA) has begun the publication of the "Journal of Middle Eastern & Islamic Law," a new journal dedicated to coverage and discussion of Middle Eastern, Islamic and comparative law scholarship. It is published twice a year and subscriptions are available.
The journal publishes academic articles and student comments analyzing the law of Middle Eastern countries and the Islamic world, the study and application of Islamic jurisprudence, and the impact of law on Muslim and Middle Eastern communities globally. While published as a resource for academics, jurists, practitioners and students interested in Middle Eastern and Islamic law and policy, the school said it also seeks to provide a forum for the discussion of current trends and issues through print, public symposia and lectures.
The initial issue includes articles and commentary on: Islamic legal history, legal pluralism and contemporary Islam, viable solutions to the Palestinian refugee problem, Islamic law, constitutionalism and gender issues, Islamic finance in the Gulf region, contemporary Islamic law and investments/finance.
