Sioux Lookout is a diverse and dynamic community. Nestled on the lake shores of Pelican, Abram, and Lac Seul, the community is rich in heritage with First Nations history dating back over 8,000 years. The name has its origins in a battle fought between the resident Ojibway Tribe protecting their women, children and elders from the raiding Sioux Tribe.
Today, Sioux Lookout is proud to be the true "Hub of the North," providing essential services to our 30,000 First Nation northern neighbours. The vast north, stretching all the way to Hudson Bay, is home to 29 remote First Nation communities.
With over $200 million in capital projects to be constructed over the next several years, Sioux Lookout will be home to a new state-of-the art health care facility, MNR Fire Management Centre, Court House, and Downtown Revitalization Project. Additionally, sewer and water servicing extensions are taking place to provide new commercial and industrial properties for development as well as a number of new residential development areas, both lakefront and lakeview.
Year round attractions include an extensive trail network for skiing, snow machining, walking, biking and birding; fishing, lake cruises, swimming and numerous water sports; hunting; aerial tours; horse-drawn sleigh and wagon rides; golf and curling; local museum and art gallery; indoor and outdoor recreation facilities.
