The 2008 TEI Region VII Conference was held at the Westin Resort on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, on July 10-13, 2008. The meeting was as big success, with approximately 100 members and their families attending. The success of this conference, which has become a tradition, is due to several factors: timely topics, excellent speakers, wonderful support from a cadre of sponsors, and an outstanding location that attracted both members and their families and lent itself to unparalleled social networking.
Organized by Mitch Trager of Georgia Pacific, the conference featured national-prominent speakers, including Shelly Kay and Jeff Friedman of Sutherland Asbill & Brennan, Glenn Carrington of Ernst & Young, Handy Hevener of Baker & McKenzie, David Warren of PricewaterhouseCoopers, and David Leiter of KPMG. The region was also honored to have Assistant Treasury Secretary Eric Solomon, IRS Chief Counsel Don Korb, and LMSB Deputy Commissioner Paul DeNard make presentations. The conference also gave the region ah opportunity to congratulate TEI General Counsel Mary Lou Fahey on celebrating her 20th anniversary with the Institute.
Region VII offers a special thank you to all the members who attended the conference and their companies that support them, to the conference's sponsors whose support help make the conference affordable, and to the speakers who provided high quality continuing education. Plans for the 2009 Region VII Conference have already begun, with the region returning to the Westin Resort o1: Hilton Head Island on July 9-12, 2009.
