As part of its goal of expanding the scope and diversity of TEI's membership, TEI has developed a series of recommendations to enhance TEI's outreach to students and professors while preserving the "in-house only" nature of its membership criteria. Kelly Nall of the Dallas Chapter, the member of TEI's Executive Committee charged with the project, explained that "the Student Guest Program is designed to encourage chapters to invite students and professors to attend specified meetings as guests, at no cost. This will allow them to get a sense of the role that TEI can play in the professional development of both tax students and rising tax executives." Presented to the Board of Directors last April, the program will be rolled out to the chapters later this year. It will feature a mechanism to help defray the cost of the chapters' reaching out to students and professions, and will complement an expansion of chapter scholarship programs and an Institute commitment to participate in programs to enhance diversity in the profession.
"Developing the next generation of TEI members is critical to the continuing strength and vitality of our organization" Ms. Nall observed. "Our new student outreach program represents an important component of that development."
