Covance, Princeton, N.J., has announced the availability of a new ELISA kit specific for soluble APPbeta, a protein that is the subject of substantial research interest in the Alzheimer's Disease (AD) field. The new BetaMark(tm) sAPPbeta ELISA assay, available only from Covance, provides researchers with a two-step process for obtaining reproducible, consistent, and ultra-sensitive detection of sAPPbeta in a variety of samples.
"There is compelling evidence that sAPPbeta, the ectodomain of amyloid precursor protein (APP) shed through beta secretase cleavage, is an important component in the pathogenesis of AD," said Joe Bertelsen, neuroscience product manager, Covance. "Our exclusive BetaMark sAPPbeta ELISA kit offers researchers a powerful tool for accurately identifying and measuring the sAPPbeta protein, possibly leading to the development of diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for this devastating disease."
Covance's neuroscience portfolio offers a wide range of high performing antibodies to key targets in neurodegenerative conditions including Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and prion diseases.
Alzheimer's disease affects more than four million people worldwide, and is expected to quadruple over the next 15 years. There is currently no known cure for the disease and diagnosis can only be confirmed post-mortem.
