Santa Monica-based Miles Electric Vehicles, Inc. has expressed its support of the California Air Resources Board's proposed Low Carbon Fuel Standard, which will encourage the purchase of electric drive vehicles and expedite the build out of a statewide electric charging infrastructure.
"By regulating the life-cycle emissions of fuels sold in-state, the Governor's Low Carbon Fuel Standard will further position California as a leader in the fight against carbon emissions and further motivate manufacturers to produce low carbon footprint, alternative fuel vehicles," said CEO, Kevin Czinger. "Miles Electric Vehicles applauds the Standard's non preferential, scientific approach at reducing the transportation sector's carbon emissions," he said.
If enacted, the Low Carbon Fuel Standard will regulate the carbon intensity of fuels sold in California by calculating life-cycle emissions against energy produced. This would reduce emissions by an estimated 16 million metric tons by 2020. The Standard is expected to triple the size of California's renewable fuels market and increase the number of alternative fuel vehicles on California's roads by more than 7 million.
Miles Electric Vehicles, Inc. plans to contribute to the growing demand for alternative fuel vehicles with the market launch of its full performance, all-electric sedan in California in 2010. The vehicle will be a 4-door, 5-passenger, mid-size sedan and will meet or exceed all the daily transportation needs of the average driver.
