Air Fiji

Air Fiji has stopped operating aircraft because it is in financial difficulty. News reports in Fiji quote the carrier's chairman, Wu Shengyue, as saying Air Fiji stopped operating because it needs "to avoid the risk of violation of laws for carrying business for an insolvent company." The news reports say Wu made the remarks in a letter to shareholders. May 4, 2009

Asiana Airlines

The Washington Department of Ecology says Asiana Airlines is off the hook for spilling fuel from one of its jets over Puget Sound after the plane experienced engine problems and had to make an emergency landing at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport last week. Ecology Spills Program Manager Dale Jensen in a news release that no fines or penalties will be levied because the fuel release was part of an emergency situation. May 6, 2009

Jet Airways, Virgin Atlantic

Jet Airways is pleased to announce a codeshare agreement with Virgin Atlantic beginning May 6, 2009. This new agreement means that guests can book with Virgin Atlantic to travel with Jet Airways on their double daily service between Mumbai and London Heathrow. Mr. Wolfgang Prock-Schauer, chief executive officer, Jet Airways, commented, OJet Airways is delighted to enter into a codeshare with Virgin Atlantic. The code share agreement between Virgin Atlantic and Jet Airways represents a significant step forward in strengthening the relationship between our two airlines. The Mumbai-London route holds great potential, and we were looking to enhance our presence on this route by means of a codeshare partnership with a carrier whose commitment to service and product quality closely mirrors our own. Linus Airways

Indonesian carrier Linus Airways has stopped operating and is seeking new investors to restart. The carrier officially stopped operating on 27 April, the day it submitted its cessation notice to the Indonesian Directorate-General of Civil Aviation, the airline's president director, Julius Indra, says from Jakarta. When asked why Linus is temporarily grounding its two BAe 146s, he says it is for financial reasons. May 5, 2009
