Abercrombie & Kent

Abercrombie & Kent is marketing its Family Holiday series as Oparadise with a purpose.O The programs give parents and children a chance to learn and expand themselves while on vacation and avoid falling into the boredom of too much idleness. The participants, whether parents or children, can learn history through the experience of walking through Roman ruins or ancient temples, learn about the impact of climate change by exploring AlaskaOs pristine wilderness, or experience the power of nature on a raft trip. A&K guides coordinate special activities for kids that add learning to a vacation in many ways. When visiting a museum, they may give kids postcards and challenge them find the real-life paintings or statues. A scavenger hunt teaches children to identify indigenous flowers and plants. A journal keeps track of animal sightings and can include sketches of the tracks they see. www.abercrombiekent.com. May 13, 2009

Trump Ocean Resort

Waves crash against a rocky shore, while a couple strolls on the beach. Poolside, a bartender is mixing up a batch of margaritas. Then comes Donald Trump, smooth and confident, singing the praises of the new Trump Ocean Resort Baja Mexico north of Rosarito Beach, an area he touts as "the next Cabo." So special that 80 percent of the first phase sold out within hours in a 2006 pre-sale. But three years later, the only progress is a gigantic hole in the ground and a heap of dirt. Instead of a 525-unit luxury vacation home complex with pools and tennis courts, this project is shaping up to be a legal battle of Trump proportions. Dozens of angry buyers have sued Trump for failing to complete the project. He, in turn, sued the Los Angeles-based builders, saying he only lent his name to the project, and it was the developers who allowed the project to fail. May 11, 2009
