For mature workers who haven't worked in their field for an extended period of time and want to return to work, the hospital provides additional training, classes and extended preceptor time. For instance, RNs re-entering the work place are provided training and updates based on the nursing skills needed via the Baptist School of Nursing, and secretarial candidates needing computer skills training and updates are provided the necessary training.
Matthews said she believes the initiatives will help the hospital retain employees longer, especially with regard to mature workers. Playing to that demographic is part of their plan to improve the hospital, she said. "When you bring in a mature worker, you're bringing in knowledge."
