Afco Steel of Little Rock, a structural steel fabricator, is celebrating its 100th anniversary on June 9, 2009. Arkansas Foundry Co. was founded by Fred I. Brown and four partners who began a gray iron foundry business. Afco Steel has fabrication facilities in Van Buren and Greeley, Colo., employing about 550 employees. In 2002, Afco was bought by W&W Steel, a privately owned steel fabricator based in Oklahoma City. Afco now employs more than 1,000 workers, making it the nation's largest steel fabricator.
