Woodlands Edge, the Little Rock subdivision developed by Rocket Properties LLC, continues to rack up awards.
The latest comes from the National Association of Home Builders, which certified Woodlands Edge at the first four-star-level land development in the United States.
The NAHB's 2009 Green Building Award-Development Project of the Year was presented last month at the llth annual NAHB National Green Building Conference in Dallas.
In a trying year for the homebuilding industry, when housing starts dropped to record lows in a sputtering economy, green homes represent "hope and the future, and the future is green home building," said Don Ferrier of Ferrier Custom Homes in Fort Worth, the 2007 Green Builder Advocate of the Year, who was master of ceremonies.
Woodlands Edge features nature trails, a wildlife preservation area and an extensive education program for it residents that stresses environmental stewardship of the grounds.
Rocket Properties is a development group composed of environmentally knowledgeable investors. From its beginning, the planning and development of Woodland's Edge has emphasized preserving more than 40 percent of the land as undisturbed forest and meadow areas.
