Cook Jeep Chrysler Inc. of Little Rock has listed its half-block property for sale, CEO Ethel Cook confirmed.
"It's a strategic move on the advice of my counsel," Cook said. Asked to elaborate, she added, "Because we are in a fight--fighting the government."
The site is home to the Jeep sales department. Cook is not going out of business however, she emphasized. The Cooks will operate Cook Automobiles, which will include used car sales, service, parts and a body shop.
"When we get Jeep back, we are going to build a new store across the street," Cook said. The location will be where her father started the dealership, she said, and after regaining the license, Cook vows to rebuild. Cook's dream is a five-story parking-deck dealership that is "green," she said.
"We'll be open for business for 90 more years," she said.
And whom does Cook blame for the false idea that the operation as closing? The media.
Cook says that all reports have falsely characterized the dealership's situation. She holds that Cook is not closing. However, while the Cooks may not be going out of business, their Chrysler Jeep dealership is.
The only reporter whom Cook thinks represented her situation well is KTHV-TV, Channel 11's Craig O'Neill.
"He cried with me," Cook said.
