Weekly UpdatesEchoStar Satellite Services, a division of EchoStar Corporation (NASDAQ: SATS), has signed a agreement to deliver its ViP-TV(tm) video transport service to Canby Telcom, a provider of telecommunications and entertainment services to more than 8,000 customers in the northern Willamette Valley of Oregon. Taking advantage of EchoStar's IP-Prime Conversion Program, Canby Telcom will receive transport of up to 42 popular high definition TV channels to its IP headend.
"We're pleased to provide uninterrupted service to our customers by bringing in the highest quality HD channels available from satellite TV transporter EchoStar and its ViP-TV service," said Keith Gaitz, president of Canby Telcom. "Our IP solution continues to provide a competitive triple play service with a bundle of high-speed Internet, telephone and digital television services, including popular HD channels."
Commercial transport provider IP-Prime announced previously it is discontinuing its video transport service to telco facilities by July 31, 2009. EchoStar's IP-Prime Conversion Program provides qualified customers with EchoStar's ViP-TV transport service, replacement IDC satellite receivers and a standard professional installation, including compatible LNBs, a satellite dish re-point, cabling and connectors.
Canby Telcom provides information, communication and entertainment services to more than 8,000 customers. The 104-year-old cooperative has approximately 10,000 telephone access lines and offers more than 200 TV channels, an interactive program guide, video on demand, pay-per-view and caller ID on TV.
EchoStar's ViP-TV transport service is capable of delivering a secure, MPEG-4 encoded IP stream of approximately 250 channels of popular, broadcast-quality TV channels from a satellite located at 85 degrees W.L. ViP-TV can also provide satellite-delivered local TV channel aggregation in a telco's designated market area in both high definition and standard definition (where available). Telco and small cable operators can also take advantage of ViP-TV's complete set of design and integration services to build a fully provisioned IPTV system.
