GDSs are "shrinking" as the channel for lowest hotel rates, Trevor Elswood, managing director of hotel booking agency BSI, said. He said discount off "market rate" was becoming the "key discussion point" between hoteliers and accommodation buyers. "This is an attractive proposition in a declining market but not the answer to really controlling spend in the mid to long term," Mr Elswood said. He added there was "price uncertainty leading to customers' confusion and micro level decision making processes, which may not support policy built upon Onamed' hotels on a client preferred programme." He said the drop in GDS usage indicated the eagerness of hotels "to attract new business on price, whilst yielding higher rates from the traditional corporate TMC GDS channel." www.bsi.co.uk May 19, 2009
Great Hotels Organisation
Great Hotels Organisation (GHO) has boosted its membership with the addition of four luxury hotels. Three Cancun properties join GHO as Great Hotels of the World and Special Hotels of the World. They are the Hacienda Tres Rios, Laguna Suites Golf and Spa and the Ocean Spa Hotel. The Les Suites Ching-Cheng Hotel Taipei, Taiwan, has also joined GHO. www.ghotw.com May 21, 2009
