Russia has added Utah to the list of U.S. states from which imports of live pigs and pork are banned due to the H1N1 virus, the country's animal and plant watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor said on Thursday. Major meat importer Russia currently applies two types of ban caused by fears of the flu spreading. The spread of the virus, commonly known as swine flu, is not caused by pigs and pork, but some countries including Russia have reacted to the name of the disease. A ban on imports of all types of meat is currently applied to Mexico, Central American and Caribbean states, as well as the U.S. states of Illinois, Texas, Washington and Wisconsin and Canada's Ontario province. Buckingham Palace

Buckingham Palace should open its doors to tourists more often and the money raised spent on maintaining crumbling royal buildings, a parliamentary watchdog said on Tuesday. Queen Elizabeth's London residence is open to paying visitors for around 60 days in the summer but says any longer would interfere with official functions. Jun 3, 2009

Despite a global economic monetary crisis people are still travelling. And France is still the number one destination in the world. Has been for several years running. The gap between France and her closest competition (#2 Spain) is wide and a virtual chasm exists between France and America, currently #3 on the list. According to the French ministry of Economy, which includes tourism, France received over 80 million visitors in 2008, a huge number as well remarkable. Virgin Trains

Airlines Driven Out of Skies by Virgin Trains' High Frequency Service. Increasingly passengers are choosing rail over air for their journeys between two of the country's biggest commercial hubs. Latest figures from the Civil Aviation Authority show that operator Virgin Trains has now captured 77 percent of the rail/air sector compared with 75 percent one year ago. Similarly on the London to Glasgow route despite slower schedules than air, Virgin Trains has seen its market share move from 9 percent to 11 percent. Just yesterday airline VLM will withdraw its Manchester - London City service joining the list of those air operators who have reduced their domestic services over the last few years as rail becomes the preferred public transport mode of choice for journeys of around 200 miles. With the pull out by VLM air services between Manchester and the Capital now total just 17 in both directions daily compared with Virgin Trains who are now operating over 90. Jun 1, 2009
