Recognizing a huge opportunity in their sister province, TBT Engineering has a new facility in Winnipeg that provides expertise in materials testing and geotechnical engineering."
Last year, TBT Surveyors Inc. was formed as a subsidiary company. It obtained a certificate of authorization from the Association of Ontario Land Surveyors (AOLS). "We were fortunate to have an experienced Ontario land surveyor, Mr. Dave Kovacs, join us as manager of legal surveys," says Rob Frenette president of TBT Engineering.
Diversifying TBT Engineering means the company is fully equipped to undertake a project from its inception through to its construction phase.
"It's like one-stop-shopping," Frenette says.
"We'll work with a client from the initial planning through preliminary and detail design; performing all of the necessary investigations, studies and reports, then tender a contract and administer it during construction including all the material testing to ensure proper quality standards have been achieved."
They provide a full range of civil engineering, geotechnlcal engineering, geological environmental, drilling, legal and engineering surveys, construction administration material testing, subdivision development and training services. This comprehensive service offering reduces the inherent inefficiencies and additional costs that can result whenever multi-disciplinary consulting services are required on a project. It is this diversity that has strengthened TBT Engineering.
As a testament to their service and client dedication, TBT Engineering refers to a multi-disciplinary project they had taken on from the Ministry of Transportation.
All investigations, surveys, detail design, construction administration and quality assurance testing on a $12-million highway construction project was managed by the company. This also included two kilometres of new alignment and a Canadian Pacific Railway overhead structure at Hawk Lake.
The completion of this project removed the last remaining load restriction on the TransCanada Highway, enhancing the ability of manufacturers and shipping companies to haul goods and equipment across our country.
Recognized for their high standards, quality work, technical knowledge and professionalism, TBT Engineering has worked hard to build a first-rate reputation.
"It's really hard to build a good reputation and It is easy to lose it," Frenette says. "We go the extra mile and do things right."
Guided by the philosophy "Doing things right has never done us wrong," has allowed TBT to hire more than 100 staff in the 2009 season.
With continued growth expected, more space will be available since the company acquired a portion of the previous Paterson Shipping Company property on the Kam River in Thunder Bay. This seven-acre properly is currently home to two buildings which will be retrofitted to accommodate all of the Thunder Bay staff and operations. As part of the development, TBT Engineering is evaluating green energy Initiatives to Introduce as many alternative forms as possible in the new location.
