Accident in Jiangsu LNG terminal killed eight.(Health, Safety & Environment)


On June 16th, 2009 an accident happened at the Jiangsu LNG (liquefied natural gas) receiving terminal that is under construction killed 8 workers, according to the Jiangsu provincial government. A LNG storage tank collapsed. The terminal is located in Yangkou Port, Rudong of Jiangsu province in eastern China.

The RMB6 billion terminal is planned to receive 3.5 million tons of LNG from Qatar, according to the contract signed on April 10th, 2008. On March 12th, 2009 PetroChina Company Ltd., Pacific Oil and Gas (subordinate to Singapore's Golden Eagle International Group) and Jiangsu Guoxin Group signed a joint venture contract on this LNG terminal, holding 55%, 35% and 10% equity respectively. As reported, the collapsed LNG storage tank was constructed by Shanghai Electric Power Construction Co., Ltd.
