North Louisiana may see 1,400 jobs with car plant.(MANUFACTURING)

V-Vehicle Co. of San Diego will locate its first car assembly plant at Monroe, La., and hopes to create more than 1,400 direct jobs, that state's governor announced last week.

Monroe, in north-central Louisiana, is about 70 miles from E1 Dorado and about 60 miles from Crossett.

Joe Holmes, a spokesman for the Arkansas Economic Development Commission, said V-Vehicle scouts made two trips to Arkansas before settling on the Monroe location.

VVC, a new, American-owned carmaker, plans to make a direct capital investment of at least $248 million and to offer average annual salaries of nearly $40,000, according to a news release from Louisiana Economic Development.

VVC, in which oil magnate T. Boone Pickens is an investor, will produce "a high quality, environmentally friendly and fuel-efficient car for the U.S. market. The goal of the company is to provide the American car buyer greater product value and a superior automotive experience."
