Arkansas Northeastern College in Blytheville is starting an aviation maintenance program.
The program, which is expected to start in the spring of 2010, still needs approval from the Federal Aviation Administration, said Mary Dement, vice president for instruction at the two-year college. The school also needs the OK from the Arkansas Department of Higher Education. Both are expected to approve the program. The students who complete the 75-credit hour program will be able to take the FAA test to be an airframe and power plant mechanic. To receive an associate of applied sciences degree in aviation maintenance, the student must complete 90 credit hours.
Dement said the program was developed to assist Aviation Repair Technologies, an airframe and engine repair company that opened in Blytheville in October.
