Moreau has been stalking the hallways of CJRW's office for about a month. He was working on a couple of projects with the agency on a consulting basis, Martin said.
One of the projects was CJRW's bid for Verizon's public relations business. Verizon chose Archer Malmo of Memphis over CJRW earlier this month.
Martin was coy about the agency and Moreau's work on the account, saying only, "He had input in it. There was a significant team that worked on that."
The account will have Archer handling several things for Verizon in the south-central region--Arkansas, Oklahoma, north Mississippi and west Tennessee. Lucie Pathmann, Verizon's manager of public relations for the south-central region, said the agency and Verizon are currently ironing out the contract terms.
Archer Malmo got the job based on its strategic thought process and creativity, Pathmann said. And while she formerly worked with Moreau and Winbourn, the connections didn't factor into her decision, she said.
"We are running a business and I felt that in order to meet the goals I'm accountable for, I had to put personal feelings aside and do what's best for the business," she said.
