Earlier, Flanders was chief executive of Columbia House Co., where he was chairman and chief executive, for six years. Before Columbia, Flanders was with Telstreet and Macmillan Publishing. Also at Freedom, Mark McEachen has been named chief financial officer; previously, he was CFO at Fabrik Inc., of San Mateo, Calif., a job he'd held since March 2007. Earlier, McEachen was interim chief executive and chief operating officer and chief financial officer of BridgeCo. Inc., of El Segundo, Calif. The 25-year financial veteran has also worked at International Rectifier Corp., Excite@Home, Transamerica and Chrysler. ...
Publishers: At the TimesDaily of Florence, Ala., Darrell Sandlin has been named publisher; previously, he was operations director at The Clarion-Ledger in Jackson, Miss., a job he'd held for 2-1/2 years. The 27-year newspaper production veteran had been with Gannett his entire career, working at company papers in Cocoa, Fla., Gainesville, Ga., and San Bernardino, Calif. He joined USA Today as a field operations manager in 1990 and later served as production director at company papers in Richmond, Ind., Tarentum, Pa., Jackson, Tenn. and Binghamton, N.Y. Sandlin replaces Scott Brown, who had served as interim publisher since Tennessee Valley Printing Co. acquired the paper in March. Brown remains operations director at TVP. ...
Editor: At The Advocate of Stamford, Conn., and the Greenwich Time, David McCumber has been named editor and editorial director of Hearst's Connecticut papers; previously, he was managing editor of Hearst's Seattle Post-Intelligencer. McCumber joined the Seattle paper in 1999 as senior editor for projects and was named managing editor a year later. McCumber's career before Seattle included nine years writing and editing books, a four-year stint as executive editor of the Santa Barbara News-Press and a two-year stint as assistant managing editor of the San Francisco Examiner. Earlier, he worked at eight other papers, including the Arizona Daily Star. McCumber is also being given a corporate role with Hearst "coordinating and editing investigative journalism across the Newspaper Group." ...
Front office: At the San Francisco Chronicle and SFGate.com, Jeff Bergin has been named senior vice president for advertising; previously, he was vice president of sales at Gannett's U.S. Community Publishing Division. Bergin began his newspaper career in 1983 at The Transcript-Telegram in Holyoke, Mass, and six years later was named retail ad manager of Gannett's Courier-News in Bridgewter, N.J. He moved to the company's News-Press of Fort Myers, Fla., in 1993, was named ad director at the Gannett Newspaper Division in 2002 and was named vice president last year. ... At the Chicago Sun-Times, Gladys Arroyo has been named vice president of advertising; previously, she was ad director at Pioneer Press West, a job she'd held since last June. Earlier, Arroyo was a sales manager at Univision and before that had a 16-year career with the Chicago Tribune, where she assisted with the Chicago and national launches of Hoy, the company's Spanish-language dailies. ... #
