Southern shuffle: Southern Newspapers Inc.'s acquisition of Texas' Lufkin Daily News has caused a shuffle of publishers at Southern's Texas papers. In Lufkin, Greg Shrader has been named publisher; previously, he was publisher of Kerrville Daily Times, a job he'd held for 14 years. He started his newspaper career at the Houston Chronicle in 1974 before holding management jobs at The Eagle of Bryan-College Station, Abilene Reporter-News and the Galveston County Daily News. Taking Shrader's place in Kerrville will be Mike Graxiola; previously, Graxiola had been publisher of Paris News, a job he'd held since 1989. Earlier, Graxiola was publisher of Seguin Gazette-Enterprise and before that worked in the ad department at Baytown Sun, where he rose in 1976 from salesman to ad director. Taking the publisher's job in Paris will be Patrick Graham; previously, Graham had been publisher of Georgia's Walton Tribune, a twice-weekly, a job he'd held for more than five years. Earlier, Graham was associate publisher of the San Mountain Reporter in Albertville, Ala., managing editor of The Times-Journal in Fort Payne, Ala., and a reporter and editor at the Memphis Business Journal, Alabama's late Huntsville News, and Alabama's Madison County Record. ...

Publisher: At Illinois' Lincoln Courier, Michele Long has been named publisher; previously, she was ad director of Illinois' Pekin Daily Times, a job she'd held for eight years (both are GateHouse papers). Long joined the Daily Times in 1993 as an ad sales rep. ...

New media mavens: At the San Diego News Network, Chris Jennewein has been named president; previously, he was senior vice president and publisher at Greenspun Interactive (Las Vegas Sun, Las Vegas Weekly), a job he'd held since last August. Earlier, Jennewein was vice president of Internet operations at the San Diego Union-Tribune, a job he held from 2006 until 2008; he joined the San Diego paper in 2001 as Internet operations director. Earlier still, Jennewein spent nine years with Knight Ridder, rising from general manager of its Mercury Center (at the San Jose Mercury News in 1992) to vice president of operations of all of Knight Ridder's on-line operations. Before that, Jennewein was an editor at the Atlanta Journal & Constitution and was vice president and general manager of its voice information services. Jennewein started as a copy boy at Florida's Tampa Tribune and worked as a reporter at the Commercial Appeal in Memphis, Tenn. ... At the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Patrick Scanlon has been named interactive media director; previously, he was executive publisher of the Americast Media Network Inc. of Fox Island, Wash., a job he'd held for three years. Earlier, he was the business development vice president at SmallTownPapers Inc. for 15 months and before that was chief technology officer at MatchLight Software. Originally, Scanlon was a photographer for Time-Life and in 1995 was named interactive marketing director at J. Walter Thompson. ...

Front office: At Central California's Lodi News-Sentinel, Stephen Knape has been named circulation manager; most recently, he held the same job at Michigan's Petoskey News-Review. A 25-year veteran circulator, Knape earlier was with various Michigan papers, including those in Traverse City, Holland and Lansing. Knape replaces Gary Greider, who retired. ... At The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown, Md., Brian Tedrick has been named circulation director; previously, he was circulation operations manager. A 17-year veteran of the paper, Tedrick also served as single-copy manager and a district manager. Earlier, Tedrick was with the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Postal Service, Mack Tucks and Washington County Hospital. ... At West Virginia's Beckley Newspapers (The Register-Herald, FayetteTribune, et. al), Gary Stafford has been named circulation director; previously, he was home delivery manager and interim circulation director. A 17-year veteran of the paper, Stafford worked his way up, starting as a district manager and later serving as senior circulation manager. ...

Editor: At South Carolina's Florence Morning News James Bennett has been named editor and regional editor of Media General's Carolina Publishing Group (The Messenger in Hartsville, Marion Star & Mullins Enterprise, et al.); previously, he was managing editor of the Independent Tribune of Concord/Kannapolis, N.C. (another Media General paper), a job he'd held for a year. Earlier, Bennett was editor of the Green Valley News and the Sahuarita Sun in suburban Tucson, Ariz., editor of the Southern Illinoisan in Carbondale, Ill., sports editor of the Arizona Daily Star, also in Tucson, and assistant sports editor at both the Arizona Republic and North Carolina's Charlotte Observer. ...#
