Executive suite: At Freedom Communications Inc. of Irvine, Calif., Burl Osborne has been named interim chief executive; he remains a member of Freedom's board, which he joined as in independent director in 2004. Earlier, Osborne was the publisher of the Dallas Morning News from 1991-2001 and was president of the publishing division at the Morning News' parent, Belo Corp., from 1995-2001. Osborne was editor of the Morning News from 1986-1991 and before that did a 20-year stint with The Associated Press, rising from reporter to executive editor. ... At The Hearst Corp., Beth Polish has been named corporate innovation director; previously, she was the owner of The Critical Junctures Group LLC and author of the "Don't Run Out of Money" series of multi-media programs, endeavors she's pursued since 2001. Earlier, Polish was chief financial officer at Goldman Sachs Ventures, president of Dreamlife Inc., new media managing director at KPMG and founding chief financial officer and senior vice president at iVillage Inc. ... At The E.W. Scripps Co. of Cincinnati, Timothy Stautberg has been named corporate treasurer; he remains senior vice president and chief financial officer, jobs he's held since April 2008. Earlier, he was vice president of communications and investor relations, a job he held for nine years. Stautberg joined Scripps as a management trainee in 1990 and later was with its Rocky Mountain News in Denver and its Record Searchlight in Redding, Calif., where he was vice president and general manager. Stautberg succeeds E. John Wolfzorn, who is retiring after a 36-year career with the company. Wolfzorn had been treasurer since 1979 and vice president since 2002, after having served as a financial analyst and assistant treasurer. ...

Editors: At Louisiana's Shreveport Times, Africa Gordon Price has been named executive editor; previously, she was managing editor of Florida's Tallahassee Democrat, a job she'd held since late 2007 (both are Gannett papers). Earlier, Price had been the managing editor of Tennessee's Jackson Sun for almost six years and before that was AME in Shreveport. Price is a native of Louisiana and started her career in 1993 as a reporter at The Courier in Houma. ... At Rhode Island's Providence Journal, Thomas Heslin has been named senior vice president; previously, he was vice president and remains executive editor, a job he's held since November 2008. Before that, he was managing editor for new media, a job he held for three years. Heslin joined the Journal in 1981 and worked a variety of jobs. Earlier, he was managing editor of Foster's Daily Democrat in Dover, N.H., and was with Vermont's Rutland Herald. ... #
