The National Science Foundation, Arlington, VA, has awarded ChromaDex, Irvine, CA, a $100,000 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant to further development of several plant-based antioxidants for commercial use in pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, functional food, natural chemical and cosmetic products. The project will attempt to prove the viability of selectively manufacturing anthocyanins, leucoanrho-cyanidins and anthocyanidins. ChromaDex plans to license this novel technology to food, beverage, pharmaceutical and supplement manufacturers to meet growing demands for natural, plant-based ingredients.
