The race debate continues.(Letters)(Letter to the editor)

IN THE MAY 2009 ISSUE (LETTERS), ED PIGUT wrote that President Barack Obama is America's first biracial president, not its first black one.

I wish Mr. Pigut would open his mind and realize that President Obama's victory is in part a black one because he is a black man. He identifies himself as African American and therefore should be considered black. It is so convenient for people to come out of the woodwork and claim that President Obama is not black now that he is president. I wonder if those people would say the same thing if he were where John McCain is now. So, as for "reporting the facts correctly," that technically means telling it how President Obama identifies himself. And that word of definition begins with a "b" and ends with a "k."
