HAL LEONARD CORP. and Music Sales Group have formed a new joint venture, Music Sales America, to distribute Music Sales publications in North America. Sales of the existing catalog of Music Sales publications, will be represented by the Hal Leonard sales force in Milwaukee and distributed out Hal Leonard's Winona, Minnesota printing and warehouse facility. With creative input from both publishers, Music Sales America will also produce new publications, making use of the vast Music Sales song library, which includes the works of AC/DC, Tori Amos, Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, Paul Simon, Cat Stevens, and many others.

Robert Wise, managing director of Music Sales, said, "This development represents the latest chapter in the long and successful history of Hal Leonard and Music Sales working together. The formation of MSA will allow us to expand the volume, availability, and distribution of Music Sales product in North America. Hal Leonard is not only our proven partner, but also the print publisher with the most extensive distribution network."
Separately Hal Leonard acquired Nashville-based Shawnee Press from Music Sales. Founded in 1937 by renowned band leader and choral master Fred Waring, Shawnee has evolved into a leading publisher of choral and sacred music. Its divisions include Concert Works Unlimited, GlorySound, Harold Flammer Music, Margun Music, Mark Foster Music, and Wide World Music. Among the company's many talented writers and arrangers are Joseph Martin, Jill and Michael Gallina, Don Besig, and Nancy Price. Keith Mardak, Hal Leonard chairman, said, "The Shawnee name is synonymous with quality. The addition of these publications and their formidable stable of writers will serve as a perfect complement to our current choral operations."
