FOR THE SECOND TIME in the last two years, raids conducted by Korean Customs Authorities turned up counterfeit Vandoren reeds at several retailers and I wholesale companies in Seoul, South Korea. The raids were initiated by the Paris, France-based reed maker after it had obtained several reeds bearing the distinctive Vandoren logo. Confiscation of stock and legal actions against the infringement activities are being undertaken. Penalties will be determined by a judge in the near future.
"The high quality of Vandoren products is the result of long experience, heavy investment in advanced manufacturing technology, and our constant will to improve our products," declared Bernard Van Doren. "The fake Vandoren reeds are very harmful in the trust relationship we have built with our customers. It is important to realize that fake products are being sold in packaging that is now nearly identical to the original ones, but the products inside the box are of very poor quality and do not meet any of our quality and selection standards."
