Etta James "Down in the Basement".(VINYL ARCHEOLOGY)(Sound recording review)(Brief article)

Etta James "Down in the Basement" (Theo Parrish Edit) (Ugly Edits 2005)

I can't begin to describe how much I love venerated Detroit house D]/producer Theo Parrish's Ugly Edits series. Sadly, there are no record stores left where I live in Bern, but Parrish's Ugly Edits have always been a great reason to order off the internet. Parrish mixes up Sugar Pie De Santo's epic Chess Records original of "Down in the Basement" with elements of Etta James' later version, flipping two jazz classics into one disco jammer. What a great tune.
