According to a recent report by The American Wind Energy Association, Missouri ranked no. 1 in growth because of the state's 90 percent expansion in the second quarter. The state now ranks third in the nation for new wind power generative capacity. The state was recognized for the largest jump in megawatts across the nation. This comes as no surprise since Rockport, Mo was the 1st 100 percent wind powered community in the US.
"Missourians know that in order for us to grow our state's economy and create the jobs of the twenty-first century, we must embrace new technology and advances like the ones presented to us through renewable wind energy," said Missouri Governor Jay Nixon. "So I'm proud that the American Wind Energy Association's quarterly report shows no state has capitalized on these growth opportunities more aggressively over the last three months than Missouri has. But that isn't enough. Missouri will continue to look for ways to enhance our energy supply and independence by using common-sense and cost effective expansions of clean, renewable wind power."
The Wind Capital Group, a St. Louis-based wind energy developer, recently announced the construction of the state's largest wind energy project in DeKalb County, MO. The company projects that the $300 million, 150-megawatt wind energy project will be completed in the spring of 2010. The project, which is named Lost Creek Wind Farm, will provide more than 2,500 jobs and enough electricity through wind turbines to power more than 50,000 homes.
Christopher Chung, CEO of Missouri Partnership would be happy to speak with you about Missouri's rapid growth and focus on new projects in renewable energies and how this will affect the nation and the state. The Wind Capital Group would be available as well to speak about why the state has great potential in wind energy.
