Mobil Producing Nigeria (MPN), the local unit of ExxonMobil, in early 2005 signed an MoU with NNPC for a pre-feasibility study for a 4.8m t/y, single-train LNG export facility to be located on Bonny Island beside the NLNG complex.
MPN's project, first mooted in 2001 as a JV with then separate Chevron and Texaco, as well as with Conoco, was also planned to serve integrated power plants within Nigeria, as well as the US and European LNG export markets. The intention was to address flaring limitations imposed by Abuja on oil producers, and the project probably could not be up and running before 2015, if it is to materialise.
