Chicken of the sea comes out of its shell.(SDBJ INSIDER)(real estate broker Jim Taylor plans to open an office)(finance to sea t

"Ask any Mermaid You Happen to See ... What's the Best Tuna? Chicken of the Sea!" Remember that "catchy" jingle from the early days of commercial television? Well, it's back in the news! San Diego's own Chicken of the Sea International, StarKist and Bumble Bee Foods are putting up $100,000 a year for sea turtle conservation in long-line tuna fisheries, according to a news release from the International Seafood Sustainability Foundation. All seven species of sea turtles are threatened, says the foundation, so the agreement is a big boost. The money will be spent studying various projects from protecting nesting habitats to funding research into mitigation ... And what a coincidence! Did you catch NBC's "The Celebrity Apprentice" a few months ago? Show star and real estate magnate Donald Trump asked his apprentices to write a new jingle for our world famous seafood producer. Nothing will top the original ... A case of too little too late? Former "Saturday Night Live" comedian and talk show host Jimmy Fallon stopped by oversized, high-profile eatery Jack's La Jolla recently to mingle with workers and guests. Later, he gave a hearty "shout-out" on his late night syndicated television show, saying how much he liked the landmark eatery. Well, as luck would have it--and in a surprise move--owner Bill Berkley shuttered the place July 30, allegedly for not paying payroll taxes. One newspaper report says he owes Sacramento tax collectors $280,000. No word if Fallon's heartbroken ... Debra Rosen, who runs the San Diego North Chamber of Commerce, reports about the launch of an educational foundation under her aegis to help high school and college students get a jump-start in the work world. The startup plans to team its first group of 20 students with local businesses this fall. Each participant will also take classes in resume writing and interviewing. "We're investing in those students who may not go to a four-year university but who still have a future and an interest," says San Diego North Educational Foundation Chair Alicia Gwynn, wife of baseball Hall of lamer Tony Gwynn. Go to SDNEF. org for details ... Well-known commercial real estate broker Jim Taylor, who's been working as a virtual local agent for international brokerage Sperry Van Ness since the beginning of the year, is taking the next step--opening an office with two partners, possibly as soon as next month. He'll combine his investment activities with brokering, with the help of two partners, in an office in El Cajon. He says he'll hire five workers immediately. Stay tuned for details ... Finally. How 'bout an only in San Diego news story? Tony Perry, the L.A. Times' journalist on the scene here, pens a piece in the Aug. 4 issue about those troublesome seals at the children's pool in La Jolla. The two sides in this silly little imbroglio have been in court more times than Perry Mason! Seeya!
